Doria Johnson
Madison, WI |
| As the great, great granddaughter of Anthony Crawford, a prosperous and wealthy black landowner who was lynched by an angry, racist mob in 1916, Doria Dee Johnson provides insight into a painful saga in United States History. Doria's efforts of writing letters and speaking out, has garned the attention of the national press and the United States Senate. Spurred to action as a child, Ms. Johnson has dedicated her life to tell the stories of her ancestor, Mr. Crawford, and the almost five thousand documented lynching victims. Doria is a member of the United States Steering Committee that secured the historic 2005 apology issued by the Senate for the history of lynching and the Senate's unique culpability to not pass anti-lynching legislation for many years.
Her story is compelling. Doria travels the country speaking to groups, uniquely situated as one of the only women to actually advocate and obtain an apology from the United States government for any of the autrocities experienced by African Americans in the diaspora. |
